America's Original Necktie

A Legacy In Silk

The necktie has always been a mark of intention.

Its origins are often traced back to 17th-century Croatian soldiers, whose knotted scarves were adopted, then refined, by the French court. From there, it moved through centuries of interpretation, from cravats to regimental stripes, from Ivy League uniform to modern tailoring. The shape has changed. The purpose, less so.

In a wardrobe built on structure, jacket, trousers, shirt, it’s the one element that feels entirely personal.

At Robert Talbott, we begin with the silk.
Woven in Italy and chosen for how it knots, how it drapes, and how it wears over time.

We have two approaches.

The Newman

The fullest expression.

The Newman is our most considered tie. Handmade in Italy from a full yard of silk, folded in on itself seven times to create its structure. There is no added lining. The body comes entirely from the fabric, which gives it a different presence from the moment you pick it up.

It feels fuller in the hand, drapes with more ease, and forms a knot with natural depth rather than precision alone.

Best of Class

The standard.

The Best of Class is the one you return to. Handcrafted in Italy from 100% silk, built with a more traditional construction that allows it to wear cleanly and consistently. It forms a precise knot, holds its shape through the day, and settles naturally against the shirt.

It works across everything - tailoring, sport coats, or something more relaxed. The proportions are familiar. The balance is considered. Nothing feels overworked.

It is the kind of tie that fits into a wardrobe without effort.

Over time, the tie has moved from uniform to personal. Less about dress codes, more about choice. It remains a small detail, but one that carries weight. The piece that sets the tone, and finishes it.
